But fortunately， my father had a well-diversified portfolio because ofwhich our returns were protected from the downside risk. This was when I learntthe second principle of finance from my father i.e. diversification reducesrisk. While I understood these two principles intuitively， it produced in me astrong urge to learn and understand the complex theory behind the working ofFinance. This， I believe， was a turning point in my career. I made up my mind topursue a career in Finance and hence decided to do a Masters program in BusinessAdministration.

　　As I was finishing college， my mother had both of her hips replaced withartificial ones because all of the cartilage in her hip joints had worn away andit was very painful for her to walk. I found it fascinating that engineers，orthopedic surgeons， and biologists had all worked together to design theseartificial joints that completely transform. people's lives by giving them backpain-free mobility， and I knew at that moment that this was an area about whichI wanted to learn more. In China these days， university graduates who have notbeen lucky enough to settle into their dream jobs often look to graduatedstudies as a way to kill the time that they cannot otherwise spend meaningfully.I am prepared to go against the social conventions by putting on hold asuccessful research career that promised to be even more successful. With eightyears of productive and highly valued practical research behind me， I now wouldlike to revert to a more intellectual life so that I can conduct moretheoretical discourses.

It can delet e what isunnecessary and only include what is important. It can solve any type ofproblem. These are all important equalities a leader has to have. A leader hasto be able to add all of the ideas together to make the best possible plan.Leaders have to know how to decipher the good and the bad out of an idea. Theyhave to be versatile and know how to deal with different types of issues.

　　All I know about leadership I learned from a ball. A ball is able to bounceback up after it is dropped. It is round and has no creases. A ball can bethrown back and forth to different people. All of these qualities are alsoleadership qualities. A leader has to be ready for every situation that isthrown at him or her. He or she has to be able to bounce back from any setbacksand never dwell on the past. Leaders have to exhibit many qualities and never beclosed-minded about a situation. A leader must be able to delegate when he orshe cannot get the work done. They have to trust everyone they lead to be ableto "catch the ball" and keep a project rolling.

　　This activity made me realize that being a leader is so much more than justhaving authority and having the ability to take control of a situation. A leaderhas to be trusting of all the people he or she leads and, leaders must be ableto combine ideas into one encompassing idea. They cannot sit in the backgroundand watch events happen; they have to jump in and be involved. They should notdelegate all their responsibilities away.

　　The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to mychildhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modernentrepreneurs. Mymother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simplecalculations. 　　With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy mycuriosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered.Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and myknowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasingrapidly.

　　As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the CollegeEntrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were neverexcluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, 20xx, Iwas so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in thedepartment of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional ChineseMedicine. 　　Could I put myself in the life-threatening working environment? Could I sacrifice my life for the benefits of others? Some people may laugh at my crazy question. To me, that is a serious question I have come a long way to find my answer. “I am not sure whether it is worth to answer”; “What is the true meaning of that question?”

　　When I was a young child, I watched a soap opera that was about court. I was deeply impressed by the judge’s calmness and the lawyer’s eloquence and resource that were showed in this opera. From then on, I hoped to study law some day. Fortunately, I performed well in entrance examination and got enrolled into __ University. Then I chose law as my major without hesitation. At university, I studied hard and got GPA 3.4. What’s more, I broadly read all kinds of books, including philosophy, history etc. My teachers’ instruction strengthened my understanding of law and makes me understand the significance of law to a country. From my studies, I had a lot of fun and got more interested in law. Moreover, I actively participated in practice in holidays from common company to law firm and tried to apply the theory I had learned into practice.

　　This summer, I had my internship in counselor department in __ Group Co Ltd which was involved in a business contract dispute, which was submitted to China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission for arbitration. As a representative of the requested applicant, I took part in the evidence collection in the early arbitration stage and clearly explained why the 5% balance of goods was not paid on time. After knowing the whole case, I visited my teacher, an Arbitration Law professor, and listened to her opinions. Realizing the counterpart didn’t completely implement their contract duty, I gave reasons as follows: First, the counterpart company didn’t mention bearing issue, which caused that the delivered machines couldn’t be put into the plant because of the disqualification of workshop. Thus overhaul was necessary, which delayed production and resulted loss. Based on these reasons, the counterpart didn’t completely carry out its duty, so our party did not pay the balance on time. During this time, I found out the evidence and pictures that attested counterpart did not give reasonable suggestion and service, and made a statement in the court. Finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that I stated. They had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company representatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. Under such condition, I was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. This matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.

　　In addition, I took part in the contact draft in several companies. In the process, when I met a lot of problems, I often turned to my teachers for help, which made good impression on them. As I cherished each practice, I studied my specialty and English hard. With effective study method and diligence, I did well both in English and law, which helped me a lot to get scholarship every year. On the other hand, my practice inspired me to study. In practice, I exercised my legal knowledge. I also realize the big gap between theory and its application—sometimes I have master the rules but I didn’t know how to use it in actual case. 　　In my study and practice, I admired outstanding lawyers’ eloquence and jumping thinking more and more. However, in China, most of lawyers come from theory study and those who can perform well in practice are insufficient. Moreover, after the China’s entrance to WTO, there are a lot of problems with Chinese law. I think, my internship experience is not enough. In practice, I could combine substantive law with procedural law to analyze case, but I still feel my theoretical foundation is not solid enough. Finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that I stated. They had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company representatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. Under such condition, I was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. This matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.

　　For nearly one year, when all other colleagues had gone back home after work or to the bars for relaxation, I kept myself busy with the designing, programming, and refactoring work. When I got home every day after ten o’clock in the night, I would read papers of and continue for seeking the universities and professors attractive to me until one o’clock in the morning. My sense of responsibility for the company made me obliged to finish all the projects in my hands before I leave for America. And my yearning for the free American environment which is easy to inspire researchers’ potential made me willing to live such hard life under much greater pressure.

　　Although over two years’ software development work in Beijing Grandsoft Technology Co., Ltd has already helped me accumulate considerable experience in software programming and designing and make some achievements admirable in others’ eyes, I, who will be promoted as a senior development engineer, know clearly that only the program in your department can fully exert my strength and make my pursuit come true.

　　I know that I belong to the kind of people who are able to better realize the life values and meaningfulness while doing certain interesting things, who enjoy challenges and thinking and who are always in pursuit of creative ideas. However, the work I was taking up now is almost always repetition of what has already existed. That’s why I gave up the achievement without hesitation. I know that I will be able to master the most advanced technology and thoughts in the program. In such a bright and promising field, I believe I will be able to inspire all my ability in facing challenges, and finally become a top talent to make contributions to the development in the field.

　　Moreover, my studying and working experiences make me very confident in myself to believe that I have got the ability and potential to realize my pursuit. I became interested in computer science in Chongqing Nankai Middle School, a school emphasizing cultivating personal interests. But my unusual performance in the National Entrance Examination failed me for entering the Department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University. Being clear of my interest and goal, I spent quite a lot of time in computer science besides the basic courses required by the university. Although I didn’t gain an extraordinary GPA, I succeeded in transferring to the School of Software. Afterwards, my GPA continued increasing and my foundation in the major was consolidated.

　　I have a good habit in learning and working. No matter how great the pressure was, I would stick to my studies after work. And I finished reading books like Interconnection Networks - An Engineering Approach and reviewed (Introduction to Algorithms, Computer Networks, Database Systems Concepts) twice. In addition, I am very creative. 　　thinking; I could solve the problem of difficulties in managing the patch files by putting the client patch files on the server for Auto update, improving the clients’ satisfaction greatly. And I gained the Intermediate Engineer position in only one year which normally took three years by others. At the same time, my strong sense of responsibility helped me never disappoint my supervisors and colleagues even when it was necessary to work overtime continuously or all night.

　　Besides, I can even get enlightened when facing failures. My experience in taking charge of the GCM—Grandsoft Cost Management project can be cited here as an example. In this project, we adopted C/S structure using COM+/Web Service as the communication method, and SQL Server 20xx as the database. Although the SQL was optimized and different DB engines and components were tried, the querying efficiency was not improved obviously when dealing with mass data and complex business logics. However, I learned in the course how to improve the efficiency of database query for huge amount of data, how to conduct efficiency test and experiment and how to use the simplest query to realize the huge business logics. In trial use of the Qlikview software of a professional data query company, although I was not able to solve the problem, I learned the BI thoughts to cache data into the memory to improve the application efficiency.

　　However, though I have laid a solid foundation in my years of studies in Tsinghua University and my self-studies during the work, though I have improved my ability in practice and problem-solving, I still lack in theories which can be seen from the above examples. Only practice is not enough to solve problems completely. The importance of theories can be also seen in my adjusting the tree traversing algorithm. I improved the GCM product’s tree building efficiency by dozens of times after I analyzed the general law of data distribution. Therefore, I am more determined to continue my further education abroad.

　　Having gone through the thinking during the learning-working-learning process, I believe that I’ve already found what I need. The program will be the most meaningful place for me in my life. The next ten years of concentrative research coupled with my determination to accept new challenges will enable me to become a paving stone on the road of CS development.

　　As I involved myself into politics,I realized that it is all-embracive-wielding its way over social and economic life-it is the omnipotent of Pakistan.It can mobilize public opinion,gear up propaganda machinery,make or repeal laws and what not.Backed up by public opinion,supported by the majority of the legislators,armed with the means to keep the people in a state of ignorance,political power crosses the limits of dictatorial powers.Political power,like the most powerful intoxicant,makes the persons in power to forget social ethics,political morality and obligations.

　　Most of the learned youth in this country consider Politics to be "a refuge for the scoundrels" and this derogatory remark may be true if we look at the deceptive and degenerated type of politicians indulging in a dirty game.All these political parties are votaries of democracy,but the way they conduct themselves inside their own parties is nothing but senseless authoritarianism.Therefore a very few students choose to pursue Politics as a profession,but what they don't realize is that if we don't take a stand the system can never be changed.Thus,I want to study Politics so I can come back to my country and contribute what little I can do for my homeland and its people.If I can inspire even a single person,it would be worth it.The world today is growing global.We are now not only to think of our own nation but as and when we think of it,we have to keep the international perception in mind;consequently,I chose Politics with International Relations as one of my courses.

　　我是一名有目标、重行动、心态平的学生。在学习中，能坚持为自己制定阶段学习计划，在一阶段的认真、刻苦学习之后，适时回头总结这一时期学习上取得的成绩和存在的不足，并向老师和班主任寻求一些建议和意见。努力做到不被单次的成绩影响学习步调，始终相信，稳定的心态是学习效率的内在保证。在与同学的相处中，我能做到不为人先，妥善处理各种情况，先理清思路找到解决问题的方法再提出自己的个人意见，在同学间有着很高的威望。在家庭生活中，我是妈妈的贴心小棉袄，妥善处理好自己的生活和情绪，不让父母为我担心。

　　二、个性特长及取得的成果

　　一方面由于我对各类挑战都有浓厚的兴趣，另一方面，我又擅长组织及协调工作，在校期间，代表学校参加县里组织的各类比赛。获得过市级三好学生与县级优秀团员等称号。除此之外，我还积极参与各类社会实践活动。社会实践活动不但激发了我的学习乐趣，也增进了我的服务意识。

　　I am pleased to write this letter for my former student Miss Nan Li,whograduated from this College with an L.B.degree in June 1978.Miss Li was admittedto the Department of Law of this College in 1974 through highly competitiveentrance examination whi ch is conducted annually and is open to the wholenation.Even in such aselective group.Miss Li made herself distinguished.Asprofessor and dean of the College,I have access to her records of academic workand moral conduct,In her fourth year study,I instructed her in Anglo-AmericanLaws on Trespass.So Ihave known her quite well.Miss Li’’s performance,like thatin many other courses she taken,was excellent with asuperior grade of 86 for thefirst semester,and 84 for the second semester.
